There’s a good synopsis over at RedState about how Phil Hare is starting to panic.  When you look at what’s happened with Hare over the last year, it’s no wonder:

The guy is obviously scared to death that he’s going to lose his job. We’re planning on replacing him with Bobby Schilling in November.

Currently Schilling is leading by small margins in various polls. There’s not much point in referencing the polls and the actual margins, since they change constantly. The point is that it’s still a close race. How do we widen the gap and make sure Hare is looking for a new job soon?

The biggest problem is probably the makeup of the 17th Congressional district in Illinois.

Illinois 17th Congressional District

Only in Illinois can you see gerrymandering like that, folks! Basically what we have here is a district that was carefully crafted to make it solidly Democrat while at the same time locking up as many GOP areas as possible. The intent is to keep the conservative rural areas from being able to swing enough votes to have any effect on government. It’s Chicago machine politics at it’s most brilliant and also most corrupt.

The only thing they couldn’t plan for was the trio of Obama, Pelosi and Reid combining together to put this country on the fast track to ruin. The power grab by the Progressives (or Liberals or Statists) has been so heavy-handed and brutal that people who would otherwise not have gotten involved have woken up. Districts like the 17th are suddenly in play, and may very well end up GOP.

If you’re someone who wants to put Phil Hare on the unemployment line, there are several things you need to keep in mind:

1) This isn’t a gimme for Schilling. This race could go either way at this point.

2) Your vote counts. Your neighbor’s vote counts. In districts like this one, many people have become discouraged because in election after election, they voted only to find out that the Democrat strongholds in the urban areas made it seem pointless. It’s important to get out of that mindset and to get those around you out of it as well.

3) This has national implications. To stop and hopefully repeal the damage the Democrats have done under the Democrats, we need every seat we can get in Congress. That means we can’t take ANY race for granted. We need to work hard to win them all, and hope that when the dust settles we’ll have what it takes.

So get off your couch! Talk to your friends, neighbors, family – explain to them why you’re going to vote conservative. Sure, some might be die-hard liberals and impossible to convince, but there will be others that could go either way, or might normally not vote. Offer to give them a ride. Offer to watch their kids while they go vote. Help them understand the differences between Schilling and Hare. Make sure they understand the enormity of what is happening and how important it is that we change course before the USA as we know it is gone.

Once again, my favorite governor, Gov. Christ Christie of New Jersey, shows how to be a leader. It’s amazing to hear him talk without the doublespeak that we’ve come to expect from politicians. New Jersey has this awesome guy to lead their state, and here in Illinois we’ve got Pat Quinn.

Look at New Jersey, people of Illinois. Learn from their example. Get rid of the mindless Democrats who are killing our state, and vote for conservatives who will turn things around.

One of the big stories in the news lately has been the poll that showed almost 20% of Americans believe that Obama is a Muslim. Of course, the various reports of the poll that I heard on the radio were always phrased something like this from a FoxNews article: “A new survey reports a sharp increase in the number of Americans who, incorrectly, say President Obama is a Muslim.” The interesting thing here is the assertion by the news media – even FoxNews that is supposedly SO right-wing – that Obama is a Christian just because he says he is.

When you take the politics out of this and boil it down to common sense, it’s fairly straightforward. “If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.” – Wikipedia Kyle-Ann Shiver at American Thinker lines out all the things that make Americans think that he’s a Muslim – and there are quite a few.

As usual, the mainstream media missed the point completely. The MSM wants to talk about how either Americans aren’t very smart, or Obama doesn’t publicize his visits to Church enough.

Whether he is a card-carrying Muslim or not is hardly important. The bigger point is what Obama’s Muslim leanings mean to this country. His “soft spot” for the Muslim faith is affecting our relationships with both our allies and our enemies. His actions are an indication that his allegiance isn’t necessarily to America, and that scares people.

If Obama keeps looking, swimming and quacking like a duck, more and more Americans are going to assume he’s a duck.

It’s hard to miss the Recovery Act Stimulus signs if they’re in your area. They’re big, obnoxious, and pointless – unless you’re a Democrat regime bent on convincing the public that you helped them in some way.

Rep. Aaron Schock has gone after the stimulus signs in Illinois, calling them “the height of narcissism”. They’re also a waste of money, since they don’t provide any real information – they just promote the program itself.

Apparently, pressure from Rep. Darrell Issa has forced certain agencies to change their rules to make the signs no longer required. However, they are still “strongly encouraged”, which is code for “we’re not gonna make you do it, but you had better do it, if you know what I mean – wink wink”.

In our area, we got to look at a couple big annoying signs while one of our streets was re-paved. Oddly, no one who lives on or travels the street thought it needed re-paving. They assume some “person of importance” must live there, which is how things usually work around here. While that street was getting re-paved, the streets in my area haven’t been touched in the 10 years that I’ve lived there. We have grass growing up through cracks in the pavement, no curbs, no sidewalks, and a patchwork of concrete and asphalt patches on top of patches. Apparently the people on my street aren’t important enough to be bought off with new pavement.

Don’t look for the signs or the stupidity to go away any time soon, and definitely don’t expect it if you don’t get your butt off the couch and educate yourself before the elections in November. If the Obama/Pelosi/Reid triumvirate stays in charge, it’s just gonna get worse.

I recently sent an email to Jil Tracy, who is our Illinois House Representative in the 93rd District. I’ve been following politics avidly for some time, but hadn’t gotten very involved until the last year or so. Recently though I’ve been sending letters supporting or opposing various bills. Usually the letters are going to Dick Durbin and Roland Burris, and sometimes to Phil Hare, but this one was in regards to Illinois SB600 and was sent to Jil Tracy.

When I send emails to Durbin, Burris and Hare, I generally get two things back, if at all. The first is a auto-responder letting me know the message was received. The second follows some time later, and is more or less a position paper on the issue at hand, explaining why the Senator or Representative is for or against the bill. The message is obviously prepared by the official or by a staffer, as it never directly addresses anything in my email. In most cases, I suspect the same message is sent to anyone who asks about the issue, regardless of whether they support or oppose it. It’s fairly frustrating to take the time to try to have your voice heard by your elected officials only to get a canned response.

In contrast, I was pleasantly surprised by the response I got from Jil Tracy regarding SB600. It was obviously written by herself, as it didn’t read like it had been prepared by a team of marketing agents. It addressed what I had written in my letter, and was very direct and down-to-earth. Even though Rep. Tracy and I may disagree on SB600, I know my voice was heard and may have an impact on my government in some small way.

So, BOOO to Durbin, Burris and Hare, and a big THANKS to Jil Tracy!

H/T New American:

I wish I could vote for Sharon Angle, but unfortunately I’m not in Nevada. Instead I’m in Illinois, where we get to choose between a Democrat liar and a Republican liar and an assortment of other candidates, many of which are preferable to the two main party hacks, but whom the media largely ignore. That’s a subject for another article, however.

Friday the New American published an article focusing on Sharon Angle’s position regarding the United Nations. I’m not thrilled with her response to the question from 8 News Now, mainly because it wasn’t as direct and clear as I’d like, but from what I can tell she’s still against our participation in the UN.

The funny part is the quote from Reid’s campaign: “Sharron Angle’s extreme and dangerous agenda includes foreign policy ideas that even top Republicans say are crazy.” Does Harry Reid still think that conservatives in this country are marching lockstep with “top Republicans”?

H/T Illinois Review:

I know it’s hard to imagine – ha ha – but apparently another Illinois politician has been caught lying. This time it’s Alexi Giannoulias. I don’t suppose this is much of a surprise for anyone following Illinois, since we seem to breed corrupt public officials in Chicago.

I use StatPress to gather statistics on this blog, and one category gives a breakdown of the various search terms that brought people here. It’s always good for a laugh. Here are some of the more interesting ones:

  • Nerdy schoolgirl
  • mila kunis sexy
  • how tall is mila kunis
  • actress dressed as schoolgirl
  • Hot Russian Lesbian Sex
  • heather graham as a schoolgirl
  • mila kunis posing

I think you can see the trend here. What’s funny is that I think I’ve only mentioned Mila Kunis once before, which definitely doesn’t rate the amount of traffic I get based on searches that include her name.

As for the other searches, I’m at a loss to understand what would bring them here, since this site definitely doesn’t spend time on those subjects. I’m too busy to branch out into those areas, and other sites already cover those subjects just fine. :)

H/T The Weekly Standard

Paul Ryan could beat Krugman at a battle of the wits in his sleep. Ryan truly knows his stuff and shows it every time the liberal media attacks his ideas. He stays on topic, has real answers for every inane point they try to make, and shows that he has what it takes to lead us out of the mess that’s been made of this country by the Democrats and the RINOs.

Paul Ryan is a rising star. Let’s hope he’s able to stay true to his principles. We need leaders like him.
