Does the punishment fit the crime?

H/T: Jihad Watch

It’s hard to imagine, but right now in Saudi Arabia a man can be stoned to death for sleeping with his ex-wife. In a nutshell, he divorced her and didn’t tell her about it for 4 months. During that 4-month time, he kept sleeping with her. The law there says that he can’t sleep with her until she’s married someone else and gotten divorced again. When she found out about it, she filed a case against him and asked for the maximum punishment, which is death by stoning.

Sleezy or no, there are a few big problems here. Death by stoning for this crime is nuts. Yeah, I get it that they have their own way of doing things, but I gotta call it as I see it. Way over the top. Also, apparently he was able to divorce her without telling her. That in itself shows the unequal treatment of men and women that exists there.

I’ve talked about this before. Those who would say there is no difference between our culture and theirs are delusional. All men are equal in the eyes of God, but how they choose to live and treat others is up to them. These societies will continue their savagery until they understand and accept the concepts of personal freedom and equality.
