Here’s a revealing article by Warner Todd Huston at RightWingNews.com. This, folks, is classic Illinois politics. Only in Illinois would we pass a law allowing video gambling to generate revenue, allow communities to opt out for moral reasons, and then tax those same communities to make up the difference. Of course, somehow it never occurs to the lawmakers that those dollars fed into the gambling machines or taxed directly in the other communities aren’t magical dollars from the big money-tree in Springfield. They’re dollars that aren’t being spent in other areas, and therefore aren’t generating sales tax.
The particular dufus responsible for this punishment tax idea is Sen. Mike Jacobs, D-East Moline. We’re calling on you, 36th District, to give this guy the boot as soon as you can. He’s bad for Illinois.
